The PeaceJamClub at BUHS Ended the 2022-2023 School Year Proudly
A Billion Bikes for Peace
Samantha Stine, BUHS PeaceJam advisor reported “Our PeaceJam bike drive on Sunday was a big success. We ended up with about 60 bikes donated and were able to refurbish a bunch of them and distribute them to community members. It was such a joyous event, everyone was working hard and working together, and everyone who showed up needing a bike walked away with one that was a good fit for them and their riding needs. The gratitude from those people was immense. We also collected $125 cash donations.”
Inspired by their success, students will continue to meet weekly to plan activities that promote peace literacy. In the planning meetings students, guided by the PeaceJam curriculum, discuss elements of a peaceful and safe community: eg. people committed to working together to find solutions to climate change, school shootings, polarization & disinformation.
Throughout the 2023-24 school year PeaceJam students will continue to use the Google-backed ‘Billion Acts of Peace’ service platform that supports and highlights student activism across the planet and creates learning relationships across borders. Students participating in the Program create their own service learning projects to address pressing issues in their communities as part of the Billion Acts campaign.
