OBJECTOR: From an Israeli rite of passage to a battle for human rights

April 27, 2025
12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
The Latchis

50 Main St. Brattleboro VT 05301

Like all Israeli youth, Atalya is obligated to become a soldier. Unlike most, she questions the practices of  her country’s military – and becomes determined to challenge this rite of passage. Despite her family’s  political disagreements and personal concerns, she refuses military duty and is imprisoned for her dissent.  Her courage moves those around her to reconsider their own moral positions and personal power.

A beautiful, moving story about one young woman’s life-changing journey, OBJECTOR (2019) is about Atalya  and it is also about her family, her peers, her government, and her Palestinian neighbors. It is a film that  brings us a view of Israel that Western media does not cover: Israeli war resistance.

OBJECTOR follows Atalya to prison and beyond, offering a window into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from  the perspective of a young woman who takes a stand for justice.

The screening of OBJECTOR will be followed by a special video statement from Atalya herself, and a  conversation with Shalva Wise (Associate Producer / Impact Coordinator of the film) and Clare Morgana  Gillis, PhD. of the Windham World Affairs Council.

Ticket sales will help bring Atalya (now Media Coordinator of Refuser Solidarity Network) to the U.S. this  September (2025) for an East Coast/Midwest tour that strengthens our collective ability to counter rising  violence and repression with rising solidarity and interconnection.
