Our Annual Galbraith Lecture honors the memory of John Kenneth Galbraith.  Ken was an influential economist who believed the economy should work to fulfill the needs of the people. Longtime friend and mentee, Robert Reich describes his work: He wrote more than 30 books including the classic The Affluent Society.  He  gave the first Galbraith Lecture for the 25th anniversary of WWAC on August 3, 1981, and did so annually until 1999.  After which, his sons Peter and James delivered the address.

Tim Rieser has carved out a significant legacy on Capitol Hill.  In 2015, Politico identified Rieser as a visionary who helped to transform American politics.  A number of significant foreign policy achievements stand out in particular.  He was one of the architects of the 1992 law that banned landmines and he also helped draft the 1998 Leahy Law which bans the United States from providing military assistance to foreign armies that violate human rights without being held to account.  During the Obama administration, Reiser played a significant role in opening U.S. policy toward Cuba. In one of his final acts before Leahy retired in January 2023, Rieser, whose parents both worked on the Manhattan Project, helped publicly vindicate the legacy of  J. Robert Oppenheimer.  Currently,  he is serving as a senior advisor for Senator Peter Welch.

Peter Galbraith is an author, academic, commentator, politician, policy advisor, and former diplomat. Ambassador Galbraith served two terms as a Vermont State Senator from Windham County from 2011 to 2015, and was a candidate for Governor of Vermont in 2016. Galbraith worked as a staff member for the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations from 1979 to 1993. In 1993, he was appointed as the first United States ambassador to Croatia where he negotiated the 1995 Erdut Agreement that ended the Croat War. He has held leadership position in UN missions in East Timor and Afghanistan. He is the author of two critically acclaimed books on the Iraq War and has written extensively for publications including The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and the Guardian. He currently serves as Chairman of the board of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, a national nonpartisan nonprofit dedicated to enhancing peace and security through expert policy analysis and thought-provoking research.
